Ingredients

Steps

  • 1

Heat a large nonstick pan over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, add the lean ground beef (we prefer to use an 85/15 or 90/10 blend of ground beef) and finely chopped onions.

  • 2

Cook for 7-8 minutes, breaking the beef into very small pieces as it cooks until the beef is browned and the onions are softened.

  • 3

Stir the tomato paste and spices into the ground beef and onion mixture, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  • 4

Carefully transfer the ground beef mixture to a large slow cooker. Add the crushed tomatoes, drained black beans, drained kidney beans, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and dark chocolate.

  • 5

Stir to mix everything together thoroughly, and season with another pinch each of salt and pepper.

  • 6

Cook the chili in the slow cooker for 6-8 hours on low, or 3-4 hours on high, stirring every couple of hours.

  • 7

Serve hot and enjoy in Chinet Comfort® cups. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, and crushed crackers if desired.
